Alcohol / Solvent / Chemical Intermediate
Description:
Octanol (C₈h4₈O) is a clear, colorless, oily liquid alcohol with a mild, characteristic odor. It exists mainly as n-Octanol (1-Octanol) or iso-Octanol (2-Ethylhexanol), both widely used as industrial solvents and intermediates. Octanol is moderately volatile, has low water solubility, and provides good solvency for oils, waxes, and resins. It serves as an essential building block in plasticizers, surfactants, and esters.
Applications:
1. Plasticizer Production: Used as a raw material to manufacture dioctyl phthalate (DOP), dioctyl adipate (DOA), and other plasticizers.
2. Surfactants & Detergents: Used in producing octyl sulfates and octyl ethoxylates, key ingredients in detergents and emulsifiers.
3. Solvent Applications: Serves as a solvent for coatings, inks, and defoamers due to its balance of solvency and low volatility.
4. Lubricants & Additives: Used in lubricant formulations and as a chemical intermediate in synthetic ester lubricants.
5. Fragrance & Flavor Industry: Used as a carrier and fixative in fragrances, perfumes, and flavor formulations.
