Category:
Solvent / Hydrocarbon / Industrial Chemical
Description:
Hexane is a highly refined aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, primarily composed of n-hexane (C₆h4₄). It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a mild petroleum-like odor. Known for its excellent solvency and low boiling range, hexane is widely used in various industrial and laboratory applications. It evaporates quickly and leaves minimal residue, making it suitable for extraction, cleaning, and formulation processes.
Applications:
1. Edible Oil Extraction: Used as a solvent for extraction of vegetable oils (soybean, cottonseed, groundnut, etc.). Provides high yield and efficiency in solvent extraction units.
2. Industrial & Chemical Uses: As a cleaning and degreasing solvent in the electronics and textile industries. Used in adhesives, rubber formulations, and leather processing. Acts as a reaction medium or carrier solvent in polymerization and chemical synthesis. Used in paints, coatings, and inks where fast evaporation is desired.
3. Laboratory Use: Commonly used as a non-polar solvent for chromatography and analytical applications.
