HEXAMINE
Rs 80 per Kg + GSt as applicable
(Hexamethylenetetramine / Urotropine)
Category: Chemical Intermediate / Curing Agent / Fuel Additive / Resin Hardener
Description:
Hexamine (C₆h4₂N₄) is a white crystalline powder or granular solid, produced by the condensation of formaldehyde and ammonia. It is a highly stable, non-hygroscopic compound with excellent thermal stability and solubility in water and alcohols. Hexamine serves as a versatile intermediate in multiple chemical industries — used in the production of phenolic resins, rubber vulcanization accelerators and pharmaceuticals. It is also used as a solid fuel tablet and as a corrosion inhibitor in various formulations.
Applications:
1. Resin and Polymer Industry Acts as a curing agent / hardener in phenol-formaldehyde resins (Bakelite). Enhances heat resistance and hardness of molded plastic and brake linings.
2. Rubber & Explosives Manufacturing Used as a stabilizer and catalyst in the production of synthetic rubber. Serves as a precursor for RDX (Cyclonite) and HMX (High explosives) production.
3. Fuel Tablets / Solid Fuel Used in camping and military solid fuel tablets, due to its clean burning and smokeless flame.
4. Pharmaceuticals & Medical Use Utilized in urinary antiseptics (e.g., methenamine salts). Employed as a preservative and chemical reagent.
5. Corrosion Inhibitor & Oilfield Chemicals Added to drilling fluids, metal treatment, and boiler water as a corrosion inhibitor.
