Formamide
Rs 100 per Kg + GSt as applicable
Also Known as Methanamide
Category: Amide Solvent / Chemical Intermediate / Laboratory Reagent
Description: Formamide (Methanamide, HCONh4) is a clear, colorless, hygroscopic liquid with a faint ammonia-like odor. It is the simplest amide, produced from carbon monoxide and ammonia or by formic acid and ammonia reaction. Formamide is a high-boiling, polar solvent known for its excellent solubility for ionic and polar compounds. It is widely used as a reaction medium, solvent, and plasticizer, as well as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
Applications:
1. Pharmaceutical & Agrochemical Industry Used as a solvent and reagent in the synthesis of sulfa drugs, vitamins, and pesticides. Functions as a formylating agent and intermediate in organic synthesis.
2. Polymer & Resin Manufacturing Acts as a plasticizer and softening agent in paper, fiber, and polymer production. Serves as a solvent for polyacrylonitrile and other synthetic resins.
3. Laboratory & Analytical Use Used in gel electrophoresis, RNA/DNA denaturation, and chromatographic applications due to its polar nature.
4. Textile & Leather Processing Applied as a solvent and softener in dyeing, finishing, and tanning processes.
