Ethylene Dichloride (EDC)
Chemical Name: Ethylene Dichloride
Also Known As: 1,2-Dichloroethane, EDC
Formula: C2H4Cl2 | CAS No.: 107-06-2
Description
Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) is a clear, colorless, volatile chlorinated hydrocarbon widely used as a chemical intermediate. The primary use of EDC is in the manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) for PVC production. It is also used as an industrial solvent, extraction agent, and in organic synthesis. EDC has good solvency, high stability, and excellent chlorination reaction properties.
Applications
- Primary raw material for Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM)
- PVC resin production
- Solvent for organic synthesis and chlorination reactions
- Extraction solvent in chemical processing
- Intermediate for specialty chemicals and resins
- Degreasing and cleaning formulations (industrial)
