Diethanolamine (DEA)
Category
Alkanolamine / Surfactant Intermediate / Solvent / Chemical Intermediate
Description
Diethanolamine (DEA) is a clear to pale yellow, viscous, hygroscopic organic chemical with both amine and alcohol functional groups, making it highly versatile as a surfactant builder, pH regulator, and chemical intermediate. It is commonly used in detergents, gas treatment, personal care formulations, cement additives, and metalworking fluids. DEA forms stable emulsions, enhances foam, and provides excellent solubilization and neutralization properties.
Applications
- Surfactants & Detergents: Production of DEA-based surfactants and emulsifiers
- Gas Sweetening: Absorption of acidic gases such as CO₂ and h4S
- Personal Care: Used in shampoos, lotions, shaving creams (regulated usage)
- Cement Grinding Aids: Performance additive for cement milling
- Metalworking Fluids: Corrosion inhibition and emulsification aid
- Lubricants: Emulsifier and corrosion inhibitor in industrial lubrication
- Textile Chemicals: Wetting and softening agent production
- Pharmaceutical & Agrochemical Intermediate
