Category:
Dicarboxylic Acid / Chemical Intermediate / Nylon Monomer
Description: Adipic Acid (C₆h4₀O₄) is a white crystalline dicarboxylic acid primarily used as a key intermediate in the manufacture of Nylon 6,6. It is produced industrially from the oxidation of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol. Adipic acid exhibits high purity, excellent thermal stability, and controlled particle size, making it suitable for diverse applications including polyamide resins, plasticizers, polyurethane foams, and food acidulants. It provides good solubility, consistent reactivity, and enhanced performance in polymer formulations.
Applications:
1. Nylon 6,6 Production Main raw material (with hexamethylene diamine) for manufacturing polyamide 6,6 fibers and resins used in textiles, automotive parts, and engineering plastics.
2. Plasticizers & Polyurethanes Used in plasticizer synthesis for PVC and other polymers. Functions as a curing agent and crosslinker in polyurethane elastomers and foams.
3. Resins & Coatings Provides flexibility and chemical resistance in alkyd resins, adhesives, and powder coatings.
4. Food & Beverage Industry Approved as a food additive (E355) to control acidity in gelatins, jellies, and beverages.
5. Specialty Chemicals Used in the manufacture of esters, lubricants, and corrosion inhibitors.
