Category:
Organic Acid / Monomer / Chemical Intermediate
Description:
Acrylic Acid (C₃H₄O₂) is a clear, colorless liquid with a sharp, acrid odor. It is a highly reactive unsaturated carboxylic acid used as a key monomer in the production of a wide range of acrylic polymers and copolymers. Due to its ability to polymerize easily, acrylic acid serves as a fundamental building block in adhesives, coatings, superabsorbent polymers, textiles, and water treatment chemicals. It can undergo esterification and addition reactions to form numerous functional derivatives.
Applications:
1. Polymer & Resin Manufacturing Used to produce polyacrylic acid, acrylate esters, and superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) used in diapers and hygiene products.
2. Paints & Coatings Base monomer for acrylic emulsions, latex paints, and UV-curable coatings offering durability and weather resistance.
3. Adhesives & Sealants Improves adhesion, flexibility, and water resistance in pressure-sensitive and construction adhesives.
4. Textile & Leather Treatment Used in fabric finishing and leather coating agents for softness and strength enhancement.
5. Water Treatment Chemicals Component in dispersants, scale inhibitors, and flocculants.
