Monomer / Chemical Intermediate / Flocculant Precursor
Description: Acrylamide (C₃H₅NO) is a white crystalline solid or aqueous solution, produced by the hydration of acrylonitrile. It is a highly reactive monomer used primarily in the manufacture of polyacrylamide, a versatile polymer applied in water treatment, paper strengthening, mineral processing, and enhanced oil recovery. Acrylamide offers excellent solubility in water, high reactivity, and strong polymer-forming capability, making it essential in industries requiring flocculation, thickening, and binding performance.
Applications:
1. Water & Wastewater Treatment Used as a monomer in producing polyacrylamide flocculants for clarification and sludge dewatering. Widely applied in municipal and industrial water treatment plants.
2. Paper Industry Improves dry and wet strength of paper and enhances retention and drainage during production.
3. Mining & Mineral Processing Polyacrylamide derivatives used for solid–liquid separation and tailings management.
4. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Serves as a base for polymer flooding agents that increase oil displacement efficiency.
5. Textile & Cosmetics Used in textile sizing, thickening agents, and personal care gels (in crosslinked form).
